The history of the Hitching Post goes back to the late 1800′s. In the 1900′s there were puppet shows in the dance hall and a complete dinner for twenty-five cents. The dances started early in the evening and lasted till daybreak. People came in a wagon drawn by horses from West Bend. Every man escorted a lady to the supper at Midnight. As you can tell our pioneers had entertainment too, and life was not dull. In the 1960′s they dug out the basement with shovels and picks to put in a bar downstairs. They made the upstairs bar a minor bar and the downstairs bar for people of age.

I was STARVING when we arrived and there was a 20 minute wait so I got a little hangry. But that was resolved when I got my food. I ordered the salmon bruschetta sandwich with their swirly fries (I think that’s what they were called) and it was absolutely DELICIOUS. The balsamic on the sandwich was so good and the cheese bread it was served on was so soft. My mom ordered a half rack of ribs and ate all of it (unusual for her). Definitely a popular spot so expect a wait, but it’s worth it.

I’m updating my review because it seems a crime not to… we always seem to end up here on the weekends. My point is that I don’t know the weekday staff. I can tell you that the weekend staff rocks it. In particular, I want to call out Hugo- the cook. Every time we are here, he is. Every time we are here, we watch him OWN that kitchen/grill. My guy and I have both been around the bar/restaurant business most of our lives. Watching Hugo is more fun then watching a game some days. This is a man that knows his space, the food and how to make it happen. It doesn’t matter how busy it is- (and our lunch hour visit was a packed Saturday) he gets the food right- in flavor, presentation and temp. As much as I appreciated our server this weekend, Sara (and she was great), I really want to give a shout out to man that makes the food happen, Hugo. BRAVO HUGO!! Every one of our visits – the food has been awesome, thank you!

Hands down the best perch fish fry around. I get it to go (every week) because I live nearby and the wait is 30-60 minutes. Cool outdoor patio with giant fire place/ water feature.

This place was awesome. We happen to drive by on a Friday night while looking for a place to eat. We didn’t immediately decide to stop because of the 3.5 – but I’m so, so glad we did. It’s one of the best fish fries I’ve had in the state. There’s only one place that beats it in my mind (Pine Ridge in Stone Lake). We experienced good service (half hour wait but it was 6pm on a Friday, what do you expect) by he bartenders and servers. We ordered the cheese nuggets for an app – solid, but not the best I’ve ever had. The captains special Friday night fry was a fish combo of perch, haddock, shrimp, lightly hand tossed batter, and some of the best I’ve ever had. The waffle fries were solid. My friend ordered the bluegill and was equally impressed. We were all big fans of the pumpernickel bread. Delicious! We also had bloody Mary’s (asked non spicy) and they were solid. I’d definitely stop here if I’m ever in the area again!

I can’t believe I’m first writing a Yelp review now but better late then never. I grew up in Kewaskum, WI and my friend’s parents owned this bar/restaurant when I was a kid. As an adult (now 25) I hadn’t been here for food/drinks until my 20′s. This place has the BEST fish fry I have ever had. The fish is flaky and the breading is crisp. When I leave I cannot wait until the next time I get to go back. I honestly am shocked that Bill A. had that reaction to the fish. I don’t think we ate at the same place because their fish fry rocks. They also have good drinks & I think the waitstaff is always very friendly. The ONLY part that sucks about this place is the wait time. I’ve easily waited an hour to get a table (well worth it). It would be awesome to see them expand to be able to seat more people.

Outstanding Food!! When I’m visiting Milwaukee I drive the 40 miles to feast on their Ribs on Wednesday night. The Best [fall off the bone] ribs I’ve ever had. I order half a rack and it is all I can eat. Very little fat and Lots of meat. SOOOO GOOOD. Also the “Post Burger” is the Best Hamburger I’ve ever had. Perfectly cooked and obviously high quality lean meat. My highest recommendation!

Their fish fry reminds me of how my grandma used to fry up perch and bluegill, I would gladly drive the 45 mins to get it. Their wings are tasty and their burgers are one of the tops in the county. Never a bad experience and a solid pour for their drinks.

Great place, never had a bad meal! Taco Tuesday, burgers are to die for, soups are excellent, and Friday Fish Fry….best around! Staff is the best. And now with the warmer weather, outside seating is great.

“Good Food, Good Service”
One of our favorite places for a Friday Fish fry. Either get there early or get there late, or come at dinner time and have a couple of drinks. The proportions are plentiful and the waitstaff are very friendly. Nice Prime and Lobster along with other specials on different nights. Highly recommend Jug’s..

“Fantastic Friday night”
I had combo plate, huge shrimp, perfect perch and tasty haddock , other had regular fish fry’s . We all thought food was great wait was about 45 minutes, if you go out for fish and there is no wait you probably don’t want to eat there. Service was great only issue was some guy at table near us while we were waiting said we were talking too loud, We are in a bar for petes sake definitely will be back.

Had a group of 18 family members spontaneously join us for Fish Fry. We had a shot wait and were seated outside near a huge fireplace. Ordered the Captains Choice with large shrimp, perch and haddock. Fish was well prepared and delicious! Service was fun and attentive. Very reasonable prices. The whole impromptu party was a success!!!
