Wife and I met some friends at Spring City Restaurant in Pewaukee, WI, located off HWY T and Silvernail Road in northwestern Waukesha. The restaurant seems to have the footprint of a former McDonald’s restaurant, with tables in the front of the house, a large bar area in the middle, and tables for 2 near the kitchen and prep area in the back of the house. There also appears to be a back deck for dining, although it isn’t much of a view. One would see traffic on Hwy T and light planes taking off from the Waukesha airport. Spring City is a family run restaurant and based on the 6 page menu with extensive gyro offerings, I’m presuming the restaurant is operated by a Greek family. The interior was fairly contemporary, and tables in the main area were a bit closer to each other than I tend to prefer. Booths lined the outer walls.
The restaurant offers breakfast any time, along with daily specials, pizzas, healthy choices, burgers, sandwiches, steaks, seafood, and pastas, desserts, and a kids menu. Friday tradition in Wisconsin is to have a fish fry. Spring City offered steamed cod, deep fried cod, deep fried lake perch, deep fried catfish, grilled salmon, or grilled tilapia. There was also an all you can eat option consisting of fried cod and it was $13.75. 3 in our party had the all you can eat fried cod, which came with french fries, and a small container of cole slaw. The other person in our party had the grilled tilapia.
Our server brought out the all you can eat fish and there were four good sized pieces of fried cod, and the pieces were not all that thick. The fish was breaded with seasoned crumbs and fried. The french fries dominated the plate and were some kind of seasoned fries. My guess is the fries had been frozen. Not sure if the cod was freshly breaded or had also been frozen. Thinner pieces tend to fry faster and cut easier. The fish was moist and flaky and the seasoned breading had a good taste and crunch to it. Our server was attentive without being intrusive. My wife settled on only eating the 4 pieces of cod provided with the initial dinner, as did another in our dining party. I was the only one who opted for more fried cod. Our server brought out what looked like a coffee cup sized saucer with 2 pieces of fish on it. Those cut up into 10 bites. I requested more fish and was given another saucer with 2 fish. The fish brought out on the saucers seemed to be smaller than the fish on the initial platter, and they were extremely hot, but good.
Our server inquired about dessert and one in our party had coconut creme pie and the other had carrot cake. We asked if the desserts were made on site and it seems Spring City may purchase those from a dessert vendor elsewhere. Neither diner expressed any concerns over their desserts, as it kept them very quiet at the table while they ate.
Total bill for 4, including 3 glasses of wine and a beer came to $86.50 not including tip. Can’t go wrong for that price.
PROS: extensive and ambitious menu; ample serving staff; restaurant owner was on site; bar area; rapid seating; relatively inexpensive.
CONS: tables may be a bit too close to each other.
The Spring City Restaurant may be able to please virtually any diner with their menu offering. We’ll be back………

We stayed at the hotel next to this place so we didn’t know what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised. Friday is “fish fry” day and they have a special of “all you can eat”. The fish and fries were excellent and they made sure to have more ready as we finished the previous plate. nice atmosphere and a fun time. price was decent for the fish and beers. I WILL definitely return here if I come back to the area.

I wish we had an awesome, all around great place to eat close to home that was just like this. I would eat here even if I was a local, and ate most meals here. Food tasted like it was cooked at home by Mom. I had work locally that required long days – so being able to have a nice sit down breakfast at 6:15am and then a solid dinner at 8:30pm was amazing. Booths & tables, warm fireplace, nice decor. Service was exceptional, but then again we were there during ‘off hours’. Soups were amazing, each meal cooked to order, substitutions allowed, gluten free bread available for a grilled cheese (yum). Walking distance from a local hotel. Prices reasonable. Healthy, low fat options available and served with really nice looking (and tasting) fruit as the side.

The employees are very nice, the food is really good, and not over priced. relaxing inside, with light music. They have specials, my favorite is the $5 Mai Tai’s, I usually pay $10 at other places, these are just as good for half the price. Big prtions of food, and really good service.
