Found this place via Yelp as traveling on Interstate 43. Good stop for a beer & burger. Very old building and they serve peanuts in the shell complimentary as soon as your seated. Shells are shucked onto the hardwood floor So remnants remain, like Texas Roadhouse. Our group had burgers which were Angus beef and quite tasty. A good stop for a burger & beer craving!

I’ve been driving past this place literally since I was 11 years old. So, for 40 years. Finally stopped in last Friday.
Mon DIEU! This place is the best. Is it a dive bar? Is it a restaurant? Is it an historical landmark (1864) that still operates as a bar? Is it a community gathering place and watering hole? Is it a family friendly place to relax with friends? Does it rock? Is there entertainment? FRIDAY NIGHT FISH FRY!
It is all of these things and more.
First stopped on Friday, my companion and I thirsty from driving up from Chicago. Two Spotted Cows (New Glarus Brewey) – found only in Wisconsin. WHAT?! Only $3.50 each? Set up another one!
Darts, TVs, video games, and “free shake” dice for a free drink of your choice. I won another Spotted Cow! They have bands occasionally, and other events. Sporting events (free shots if the Packers score, and free food at halftime for Packer games!)
The bartenders are absolutely fabulous women – so friendly and attentive. They even let me bring my dog in on this Friday afternoon, since no one was eating. Automatic five stars! After awhile, another dog-loving patron came by, so we took all the pups and went to the backyard and let our dogs romp together. What fun, and what a friendly crowd of regulars. In the time we spent there, we found out where to get firewood, charcoal and . . . FRESH EGGS! We heard everyone’s dog stories. Super friendly place filled with great people.
Naturally, we came back on Sunday, on our way out. Sunday, no dogs were allowed inside, since it was eating time – understandable, this is a clean joint! The women behind the bar on Sunday was just as awesome and friendly as our Friday bartenderess. On this day, we sampled the homemade Seafood Chowder. Oh man, this is worth driving all the way from Chicago for – buttery, with GIANT chunks of seafood. A bowl ($3.75?!) is enough for lunch for one, or for two to split. Incredibly rich, creamy and delicious.
This is where shit went off the rails. In a good way! Our burger showed up. For $9 ish, we got a TOWERING MOUND OF BEEF, with bacon mind you, mushrooms and cheese. Perfectly cooked to order, juicy and incredible. It’s one of those burgers you have to cut in half to eat. Me, I used a fork. You can get it any way you want, we ordered it straight up off the menu, and it was fantastic. This burger gives places in Chicago a run for their money, it was really very, very good.
I love this place. Absolutely love it. We’ll be stopping here every time we come up to my private Idaho beach. Mark my words, ya hey! Rural Wisconsinstyle, I’m all over it! Oh, and the bathrooms were SPOTLESS.
